Visakhapatnam: Following criticism from a section of YSR Congress Party, TDP MLA from the city and former Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Friday sent another resignation letter claiming it in the proper format from the membership of the Legislative Assembly to the Speaker for acceptance.
Immediately after the Centre's decision to privatise Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), he had sent in a resignation letter a few days ago. However, as it was not in proper format, his friend-turned-foe Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao had come down heavily on him stating that it was a 'resignation drama' by Ganta Srinivasa Rao.
The Minister had alleged that Ganta was known for his gimmicks and changing political parties frequently. There were reports that he had plans to join the YSRCP bandwagon. Immediately after his earlier resignation, he had praised Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for trying to hurt the sentiments of Andhra Pradesh as the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant was set up after a statewide agitation by students and political activists in 1960s under the banner of 'Visakha Ukku Andhrula Hakku.'
When contacted, Ganta told Bizz Buzz that he was genuinely interested to stop privatisation of RINL. "That's the reason why I want to quit the Assembly membership and join an apolitical agitation to stop privatisation." He urged the ruling party to convene an Assembly session to discuss the issue and adopt a resolution against the decision to sell 100 per cent government shareholding by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on January 27.
